BREAKING SPORT

CRYSTAL Palace manager George Burley is relieved goalkeeper Julian Speroni is still at the club after Fulham made a transfer deadline-day bid for the Argentine.

The Cottagers wanted to bring in the Eagles stopper to pave the way for Mark Schwarzer’s sale to Arsenal, but they were unable to agree a deal for Speroni.

“There was an interest but nothing materialised,” said Burley. “We’ve managed to keep hold of Julian, certainly until January at least, which is great.

“He has proven himself to be a fantastic keeper over a number of years and I’m very pleased he’s still at the club.”
